US media reported that the billionaire sent the donation the day after his conviction – Which billionaire supports Joe Biden
His election campaign Donald Trump received $50m (£39.5m) from conservative billionaire Timothy Mellon, according to a federal report on Thursday, BBC news reports.
The Super-Pac fund called “MAGA Inc” disclosed to the Federal Election Commission that it received more than $68 million from donors last month.
Reuters reported that Mr. Mellon, heir to a banking family Mellon based in Pittsburgh, gave $50 million. Another $10 million came from billionaires Liz and Dick Uihlein.
US media reported that Mr Mellon sent the donation the day after Mr Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records at his trial in New York.
Mr Mellon was also the largest donor to independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr, giving the pro-Kennedy Super-Pac American Values at least $20 million.
Super-Pacs are independent “political action committees” that can raise unlimited amounts of money to support an election candidate.
Mellon’s donation helped pro-Trump allies edge out allies of US President Joe Biden on the campaign trail in recent weeks.
Mr. Mellon, who lives in Wyoming and is rarely photographed, is an amateur pilot who has invested in and led transportation-related companies.
Forbes estimates that the Mellon family is worth about $14.1 billion.
Billionaire Mike Bloomberg Endorses Joe Biden
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the billionaire Mike Bloomberg has given nearly $20 million to Super-Pacs which they support Biden.
Mr. Bloomberg’s contribution included $19 million to an independent pro-Biden group known as Future Forward, or FF PAC.
Billionaire philanthropist Melinda Gates, the ex-wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, also called on citizens yesterday to vote for Joe Biden in November, without disclosing whether she donated money to the Democrat’s campaign.
Another $900,000 was given to the Biden Victory Fund, which is a merger of the Biden campaign and Democratic Party committees.
On Thursday, the pro-Kennedy Super-Pac reported that it took in only about $280,000 last month, none of which came from Mr. Mellon.
Joe Biden’s campaign team has frequently attacked Donald Trump for his ties to the wealthy, accusing him in particular of “selling out America to his biggest donors.”
In a statement Thursday, it expressed satisfaction that it raised more than $85 million in May and had a total of $212 million available at the beginning of June.
