Thunderstorms and very heavy rain caused flooding after a landslide in the Mesolcina Valley
Three people are missing after the floods that occurred in southeastern Switzerland, the police in the canton of Grisons announced today.
A fourth person, a woman who had also been reported missing, was “found alive” and is now in hospital, a police spokesman told AFP.
Thunderstorms and very heavy rain caused flooding after a landslide in the Mesolcina valley, cantonal police said.
“The rivers overflowed. The roads were flooded and had to be blocked off,” the police explained.
Several dozen residents were also displaced from their homes in this area as well as in the neighboring Kalanka Valley.
Heavy rains have occurred in several areas of Switzerland in recent days. Traffic on several roads was blocked and rail services were disrupted.
The famous ski resort of Zermatt, in the canton of Valais, has been cut off from the public since midday on Friday due to the risk of flooding, which has led to the disruption of rail and road links.
