Russia’s deputy foreign minister says major powers must stop world from slipping to nuclear mayhem
Ryabkov said the West underestimated “Russia’s readiness to defend itself and ensure its own interests in any situation.”
“I don’t even want to assume that this underestimation could become tragic and fatal,” he said, adding that the West had chosen to confront a major nuclear power.
“There are different ways to answer this – rhetorical and practical. We have the resources to send “signals” to the West in the area of nuclear deterrence, even if there is no willingness on the part of our adversaries to engage in sober dialogue. But there is a risk, which cannot be underestimated, that their side may make a mistake… We will try not to do that.”
“Our common task is to prevent the world and the multipolar world, above all, from sliding into nuclear chaos,” Ryabkov noted.
