North Korea yesterday denounced the recent joint military drills held by South Korean, Japanese and US forces, warning it was a “new show of deterrent power”.
Two ballistic missiles were fired from North Korea a few minutes after 5 a.m. Monday (local time, 11 p.m. Sunday in Greece), South Korea’s national defense general staff announced.
The first short-range ballistic missile was launched at around 05:05 (23:05 Greek time) from the Changgyon area in a northeasterly direction and traveled a distance of about 600 kilometers, while the second was launched ten minutes later from the same area and traveled a distance of about 120 kilometers, according to the same source.
“We strongly condemn North Korea’s missile launch as a provocation that seriously threatens the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula,” the National Defense General Staff in Seoul said in a statement, noting that it had shared relevant information with US and Japanese authorities.
On Sunday, North Korea denounced the recent joint military drills held by South Korean, Japanese and US forces, warning of a “new show of deterrent power”.
Last week, Pyongyang claimed to have conducted a successful test of MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle Technology), which refers to the development of missiles that carry multiple warheads. However, Seoul dismissed the claim as misleading, claiming the launch was a failure.
