Italian authorities are on the trail of yet another femicide, as they arrested a 43-year-old trucker in Sardinia as the prime suspect in his wife’s murder.

42-year-old Francesca Deida disappeared last May, from a town in southern Sardinia, and only now have the authorities discovered that she has been murdered, without her body being found yet.

According to the Daily Mail after the 42-year-old was last seen, texts were allegedly sent from her phone telling friends and family she needed some time away due to her break-up – but she refused to speak to anyone on the phone .

The call center where she worked also received her resignation in an email sent after she disappeared.

Investigators claim these messages and emails were written by her husband after he killed her and hid her body.

Although the phone was not found, “traces left by the suspect online” led to his arrest, according to local media.

She was reported missing by her brother and an associate on May 30.

When Sollai was asked by police why he did not report his wife missing, he said her brother had already done so.

Police quickly ruled out suicide and voluntary separation and focused their investigation on Deidda’s relationship with her husband, who reportedly gave several conflicting statements.

Sollai claims his wife wanted some time apart to “think”, according to local reports.

Although no body was found Sollai was arrested for murder last week and remains in prison.

He maintains his innocence and his lawyer told local media: “There is no evidence that this was a homicide and to this day we have no evidence that our client used his wife’s phone or sent the email.”

The couple’s home, where they have lived together since 2012, as well as their cars have been seized by police.
