In a diplomatic crisis between Paris and Ankara, the issue of compliance, with the dictates of the Turkish Ministry of Education, of the educational programs followed by the French schools in Turkey tends to evolve.

According to a number of publications in the French press, the Turkish government is threatening to prohibit the enrollment of Turkish students in schools from now on if their educational programs are not adapted to its general guidelines, regarding subjects related to religion and ethics.

General guidelines that, according to French media reports, were presented by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in early June, provoking strong protests from Turkish teachers’ unions who accuse him, among other things, of Islamizing education. According to French media, if the Turkish state bans the enrollment of Turkish students in Franco-Turkish schools, they will face insurmountable financial problems. Also, reports say that in order for the Turkish side to continue allowing Franco-Turkish schools to operate, it requires a new bilateral education agreement with Paris that would allow it to open and operate Turkish schools in France.
