U.S. prosecutors formally appealed Wednesday a federal judge’s decision to drop the criminal case brought by special counsel Jack Smith. who had prosecuted Donald Trump on charges that he illegally kept classified documents after his presidency ended.

Smith’s office filed a motion saying it would ask the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to revive the case and overturn the U.S. district judge’s July 15 ruling. Florida-based Eileen Cannon.

It is noted that US District Judge Eileen Cannon on Monday formally dismissed the federal charges against former President Donald Trump in the case of hiding classified White House documents.

Judge Cannon in her ruling states that the appointment of special prosecutor Jack Smith was illegal and violated the Constitution.

The decision ends, as reported by the American network, one of the biggest legal challenges facing the former president and comes on the first day of the Republican National Convention. Many legal experts considered the classified documents case the strongest of the four pending cases against the former president.
