Russia welcomed the Republican vice presidential candidate’s stance on Ukraine
Russia is ready to work with any US leader willing to participate in “fair dialogue with mutual respectForeign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday, while hailing Republican vice-presidential candidate Jay de Vance’s stance on Ukraine.
Vance, chosen this week by Donald Trump as his running mate, wants to reduce US military support for Ukraine while believes that Kiev has no chance of regaining all the territories that Russia has seized since it launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
“They are for peace, they are for ending aid and we can only welcome that view because that is what we need, to stop equipping Ukraine and then the war will endLavrov told reporters.
America’s European allies are widely concerned about Vance’s choice as a vice-presidential candidate. Trump had voiced his opposition to the latest congressional aid package for Ukraine, which was passed in April. But, unlike Vance, he didn’t object.
Trump also said late last month that he does not accept Russian President Vladimir Putin’s terms for ending the war. Putin said Russia would end the war if Kiev handed over the four regions in the east and south of the country claimed by Moscow.
