The Vice President’s staff said it was the largest 24-hour fundraiser by a candidate in American history.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign announced Monday that it raised $81 million in the first 24 hours after announcing that he would seek the Democratic presidential nomination.
In a statement, she said that the amount “reflects money raised by campaign, Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees,” noting that this is the largest 24-hour fundraiser by a candidate in American history.
In a statement, Harris campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz called the fundraiser a “historic outpouring of support» to the vice-president.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris’s staff expects by Wednesday night to have secured a majority of the nearly 4,000 Democratic delegates needed to win the nomination, according to Reuters.
Campaign officials and allies have made hundreds of phone calls to drum up delegate support ahead of the Aug. 19-22 Chicago convention, while also seeking to deflect potential challenges to her.
