Xhell with the fires in Canada. A forest fire reached the city of Jasper yesterday Wednesday, as the provinces Alberta and British Columbiain western Canada, have been faced with a fiery blaze — hundreds of fires that are still being called out of control — and firefighters are fighting a dramatic battle to save critical infrastructure from the flames, particularly an oil pipeline, according to authorities.

The uncontrolled fires have reached433 in British Columbia and 176 in Alberta• more than ten raging in the Fort McMurray area, oil production hub from tar sands.

The Trans Mountain Pipeline, which can transport up to 890,000 barrels oil from Edmonton to Vancouver, crosses a national park in the Canadian Rockies near Jasper, where 25,000 people have been forced to evacuate since Monday.

Firefighters are “working to save as many buildings as possible and to protect critical infrastructure, such as a wastewater treatment plant, telecommunications facilities (and) the Trans Mountain Pipeline,” Canada’s National Park Service said via Facebook.

Rapidly deteriorating air quality forced civilians and firefighters without breathing apparatus to evacuate the town of Hinton, about 100 km away, the agency added.

However, the authorities were expecting rain in places in the next few hours, which could give the firefighters a breather.
