“All aerial targets were intercepted and destroyed,” regional governor Alexander Bogamas assured via Telegram, adding that no casualties or serious damage were reported.
Arrays of Russia’s air defense intercepted 12 remote-controlled unmanned aerial systems of Ukraine in about an hour late last Friday night in the airspace of Bryansk region, the head of the self-governing authorities announced.
“Thanks to our valiant defenders, all aerial targets were intercepted and destroyed,” district governor Alexander Bogamas assured via Telegram. No casualties or serious damage were reported, he added.
Vychislav Gladkov, governor of Belgorod, which also neighbors Ukraine, said three drone strikes and shelling broke windows and damaged buildings.
Ukrainian armed forces have launched attacks on Russian border areas, especially in the Belgorod region, almost daily in recent months.
The wave of attacks prompted the Kremlin to order an operation in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region in May to expand what it called a “neutral zone” and end Ukrainian strikes on Russian communities. Russian army officers assured that several communities in it were occupied. Ukrainian officers, however, say the situation has stabilized.
Earlier this week, Mr. Gladkov and other officials announced restrictions on access to parts of Belgorod to prevent more casualties from Ukrainian attacks.
