Danish musician signed contract with Russian Ministry of Defense hoping to serve in Siberia but found himself on Ukrainian front
A Danish musician who decided to serve in the Russian army, signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense of Russia, appealed to the court demanding that the document he signed be considered invalid.
The Danish television network TV2 reports on the matter.
According to the 33-year-old Dane, whose name the TV network has withheld, the contract he signed was in Russian, so he did not understand that the document was only about the hostilities zone in Ukraine.
The Danish musician says he supports Russian President Vladimir Putin and sympathizes with the Russian military, but he himself did not want to go to the front.
The Danish musician arrived in Russia in the summer of 2023 and in the autumn decided to extend his residence permit because “he likes the course and values of Russia better than those of Europe».
However, the whole process was delayed and the Dane decided to go to a recruiting office, hoping that along with the contract he would sign, he would also acquire Russian citizenship.
Signing the document, he believed that he would serve for a year as a border guard in Siberia, but he found himself in Lugansk.
The Danish musician is currently serving in an aviation unit of unmanned aircraft and complains that his fellow soldiers make fun of him and force him to drink vodka.
His lawyer points out that according to the law foreigners can be taken into the army only if they know the Russian language and hopes to take the case to the European Court of Human Rights, whose rulings Russia does not recognize.
The Danish Ministry of Defense stated that it is aware of this incident, but cannot report anything new.
