Historic first for vice president and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harrisas it appears to have received the support of the country’s oldest and largest Latin American civil rights group.

The development could mark a major shift in her campaign against Donald Trump, who has so far been winning the Latino vote.

The Union of United Citizens of Latin America, or LULAC, will officially announce her support of Kamala Harris through her political arm, LULAC Adelante PAC, according to CBS. This is the first time the organization has endorsed a presidential candidate since its founding in 1929.

LULAC President Domingo Garcia told CBS: “Vice President Harris has proven to be a steadfast ally and supporter of the Latino community throughout her career and is the right choice for the continued well-being of Latinos in the United States and the future of our country”, while he added that “the politics of hatred and scapegoating of Latinos and immigrants must stop”

LULAC’s endorsement comes as Harris and her running mate, Tim Walsh, arrive in Arizona, an ambivalent state where nearly one in four voters are Latino. The organization’s board members are expected to formally announce support for Kamala Harris before her rally in Nevada on Saturday.
