Assis told Brazilian news agency G1 that he arrived at the counter at 9:40am. and noticed that there were no employees.

Assis said he begged to be allowed to board his flight back to Sao Paulo.

Another young man said he and three friends were among 10 passengers waiting at the wrong gate and unable to board the flight.
