The little girl, who was saved, is named Rim
A spokesman for Khan Younis Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip told AFP that an Israeli strike killed ten members of the same family in the eastern part of the city, leaving one survivor: a three-month-old baby girl.
“Ten members of the Abu Haya family were killed by an Israeli strike in Abasan, eastern Khan Younis,” said the spokesman, who was not identified.
“There is only one survivor, a baby. The baby girl, named Reem, is three months old,” he added, giving the names of the two parents who were killed along with their five sons and three daughters.
Wrapped in a black cloth, with a face full of shrapnel wounds, the baby caused a great charge in the forecourt of Nasser Hospital, which is now a meeting place for families looking for a missing person or coming carrying an injured or dead person. “This little girl came out of the rubble. Her entire family was killed. And her mother. Who will breastfeed her?”, asks Ibrahim Barbak, a resident of Khan Younis, holding the baby in his arms.
First responders, eyewitnesses and medical sources are reporting new airstrikes and Israeli artillery attacks, many of them deadly, in various areas of the Gaza Strip today.
The Israeli military did not respond to an AFP request for comment.
