A complete freeze on assets and a travel ban are immediately imposed by the British government against two more Russian oligarchs “with significant interests in the UK and close ties to the Kremlin.”
They are Alisher Usmanov and Igor Suvalov, with a total fortune of $ 19 billion.
Among other things, Alisher Usmanov has interests in Arsenal and Everton football clubs, owns the e 48m Beechwood House in Highgate, north London, and a 16th-century historic estate in Surrey.
Igor Suvalov owns two luxury apartments in the British capital worth 11 million pounds, while the Foreign Office describes him as a person in the “inner circle” of President Putin. He has served as deputy prime minister, chief of staff to Russian government officials, and has been at the helm of Russia’s 2018 World Cup bid.
In total, after the invasion of Russia, the British government has announced sanctions against 13 Russian oligarchs, while it has taken measures against Russian banks and companies.
The establishment of a Working Group against Oligarchs with the participation of ministers and officials from various ministries was also announced, with the aim of documenting the ties of Russian businessmen with the Kremlin.
“Imposing sanctions on Usmanov and Suvalov sends a clear message that we will strike at oligarchs and individuals who continue to be closely associated with the Putin regime and its barbaric war,” said Foreign Minister Liz Trass. We will not stop there. “Our goal is to paralyze the Russian economy and deprive it of funding from Putin’s war machine.”
