The commander of the Ukrainian armed forces did not give the exact location, but Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russian forces are targeting the city of Pokrovsk
The commander of Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Sirskyi stated today, Sunday that the situation is “difficult” caway from Russia’s main attack, which is concentrated in eastern Ukraine, however, all the necessary decisions are taken as he said.
Sirsky did not give the exact location of the main Russian offensive, but earlier he and President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces were targeting the strategically important Pokrovsk city.
“The situation is difficult in the direction of the enemy’s main attack. But all necessary decisions at all levels are taken without delay.” Sirskyi said on the messaging app Telegram.
Sirsky said last week that he spent several days on the eastern front near Pokrovsk and described the fighting there as “extremely tough”.
Russia, which has seized parts of eastern Ukraine since launching its full-scale invasion in February 2022, continues to advance slowly with heavy fighting taking place there.
The territorial gains continue after Ukraine made a surprise incursion into western Russia’s Kursk region on August 6, with the apparent aim of drawing Russian forces away and bolstering Kiev’s position in potential future talks.
At the same time, Ukraine launched a barrage of drone attacks against various regions of Russia, including the capital Moscow, according to Russian officials. Russian air defenses shot down the drones, with no casualties reported.
According to Russian officials the Ukrainian drones targeted power plants and refineries in the neighboring regions of Moscow and Tver. Dozens of drones were also destroyed in other parts of the country.
The governor of Tver, Igor Rudenia, said five drones were destroyed over his region northwest of the capital. He did not report any possible damage. However, several channels on Telegram are posting videos showing explosions in the area of the power plant.
