There is no end to the horrors of the war in Ukraine. A mother with her three daughters was between of the seven people killed in the western city of Lviv, Ukraine, from the news Russian strikes that hit the city in the early hours of Wednesday. Also, dead is a baby and a girl, as the officials stated.

They are 7-year-old Emiliya Bazilevich, 18-year-old Daryna Bazilevich and 21-year-old Yaryna Bazilevich.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sandovy said Russia attacked with drones and hypersonic missiles. The attack came as Ukraine is already reeling from Russia’s deadliest bombing this year – a strike on a military institute in the central city of Poltava yesterday that left 53 dead and hundreds injured.

Explosions were also heard over the capital Kiev on Wednesday as air defenses targeted Russian missiles.

Russia’s defense ministry said it had fired Kinzhal hypersonic weapons at a Ukrainian defense industry facility in Lviv and that all designated targets had been hit.

However, the mayor of Lviv said that the Russian attack caused damage to more than 50 buildings in the historic heart of Lviv, including residences, schools and clinics. He also posted a photo on social media of the family who lived there and vented, saying only the father managed to survive. His wife, Yevgenia, and their three daughters – Darina, Emilia and 21-year-old Yaryna – all died at home.

At the same time, in Poltava, rescuers continue to search through the ruins of the military communications institute for survivors after the attack. Mykyta Petrov, 26, a cadet, said two rockets hit the area shortly after 09:00 local time on Tuesday, with the second exploding just three seconds after the first.

“I ran outside, there was smoke and dust everywhere… Many people were outside with a cigarette and many were killed.”

The cadet said there was “too much blood, too many bodies” and what he had seen had affected him psychologically.
