: Three Civil Protection rescuers were killed in an Israeli attack
Lebanon’s health ministry announced today that three rescuers were killed and two others wounded in an Israeli attack on a Civil Protection team fighting fires in southern Lebanon.
“The Israeli enemy targeted a team of the Lebanese Civil Protection that was putting out fires caused by the recent Israeli strikes in the village of Furun, resulting in the death of the three rescuers,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that the two wounded were in critical condition. .
The ministry “condemns this flagrant Israeli attack that targeted a group of an official body of the Lebanese state”.
South Lebanon has become the scene of almost daily exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli military since the start of the Gaza war on October 7 between Israel and Palestinian Hamas, an ally of the Lebanese movement. Since then, 614 people have been killed, mostly Hezbollah fighters but also at least 138 civilians, according to an AFP tally.
On the Israeli side, 24 soldiers and 26 civilians have been killed, according to the army.
Today, Hezbollah announced a series of attacks against Israeli troops and positions near the border, mostly using Katyusha rockets, saying some of the attacks were in response to “attacks by the Israeli enemy” against southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s national news agency reported that Israel carried out airstrikes and shelling in several areas in the south of the country.
The Israeli military said it detected “missiles” coming from Lebanon, and intercepted some of them. It said it hit “Hezbollah military infrastructure and a rocket launch base” in the Kambrika region and other areas of southern Lebanon.
