The Commission’s foreign policy spokesman, Peter Stano, said today that the EU has received “credible information” about Iranian ballistic missile deliveries to Russia and the EU is now preparing to take action.

“We confirm that we have received reliable information about the delivery of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia. The High Representative Josep Borrell, in his bilateral contacts with the Iranian partners, warned Iran many times about such a decision”, explained the representative of the Commission to various media, including AMPE. He also recalled that “EU leaders were very clear in the conclusions of the March European Council: “The EU will respond quickly and in coordination with international partners, including with new and significant restrictive measures against Iran”.

Continuing, Peter Stano noted: “The delivery of ballistic missiles will likely aid Russia’s escalating bombing campaign against Ukrainian civilians, cities and civilian infrastructure, further increasing civilian casualties and destruction. This represents a further military escalation by Russia and an escalation of Iran’s support for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which violates the UN Charter, international law and international humanitarian law. This support for Russia’s terror campaign against the population of Ukraine will be met with a strong response from the EU. The High Representative, Josep Borrell, has already set out to EU member states a substantial set of decisive and targeted measures as part of the response of the EU, which should be unanimously agreed by all member states”.

It is noted that the EU has already imposed sanctions on Iranian drone manufacturers, whose products were supplied to Russia.
