Their “swords” cross at this time Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in the first between them debatein view of US presidential elections on November 5, in front of millions of television viewers, without an audience and without notes, for 90 minutes.

Both agreed to strict rules, which were designed in such a way as to avoid sudden interruptions or direct interventions.

The Harris-Trump teleconference is moderated by two journalists from the ABC network.

Against the economy and inflation

Initially, the debate revolved around the number one issue for American citizens, that of economy. and cost of living. Kamala Harris has asserted that it is the only credible solution for the middle and working class. Even referring to housing policy, she pointed to the need to support young families with a bold tax cut of $6,000, the largest in a long time, as well as supporting small businesses with tax breaks of $50,000.

Attacking, at the same time, Donald Trump, she accused him of providing a tax cut for “billionaires and big companies”, which will cause a “hit of 5 trillion dollars”.

For his part, Trump launched an attack on his opponent, accusing her of “record inflation”. “When I was president, I secured billions of dollars from China,” he said, adding that “we have the worst inflation in the history of our nation.”

Vice President Harris responded that the Biden administration needed to “clean up Donald Trump’s mess” after 4 years in the White House, accusing Trump of leaving the US with “the worst unemployment since the Great Depression,” “the worst attack on democracy us since the Civil War” and “the worst public health outbreak in a century.”

Trump’s categorical “no” to participation in Project 25 – “Harris is a Marxist”

The American vice president criticized her opponent for his participation in the Project 2025 a 922-page book of controversial policy proposals intended to guide the next Conservative government.

Trump has again denied knowledge of Project 2025, despite it being drafted by at least two dozen members of his administration and allies.

“Everybody knows I’m an open book,” he said, and turned the conversation to immigration by blaming the Biden administration on the record of the Biden administration.

Harris took a moment to try to counter Trump’s comments.

“But I will say to all of you in this debate tonight, you will hear from the same old tired playbook, a bunch of lies, complaints and characterisations,” he said.

“She is a Marxist. Everyone knows she is a Marxist. Her father is a Marxist economics professor. He taught her well,” Trump replied.

“With abortion, babies are executed” – Fierce opposition to abortion

The second issue of discussion in which the two candidates were opposed is the abortions and reproductive rights, with Kamala Harris taking aim at what she called Trump’s “abortion bans.”

“One doesn’t have to give up one’s faith or deeply held beliefs to agree with the government, and Donald Trump certainly shouldn’t be telling a woman what to do with her body,” she said, accusing Donald Trump of ” lies something that does not impress anyone”.

He also said Trump’s abortion policy “insults American women.”

Trump began by describing how some states allow abortions at 9 months, saying the babies have been “executed” under some state laws.

“The government and Donald Trump certainly shouldn’t be telling a woman what to do with her body.”

“A 12 or 13-year-old incest survivor being forced to carry the pregnancy to term – they don’t want that,” was the Democratic candidate’s immediate response.

For his part, former President Donald Trump said he would not sign a national abortion ban. In fact, responding to Harris’ claim, he said he would not promote a national abortion ban.

“Here again, it’s a lie. I won’t sign a ban and there’s no reason to sign a ban because we got what everybody wanted” — referring to the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court.

“Immigrants are cannibals, they eat cats” – Angry reaction from Harris

The third topic in which Kamala Harris and Donald Trump were opposed is immigration policy.

The Republican repeated disparaging claims about immigrants, calling them “cannibals who harm animals” during the debate, claiming they “eat cats,” which the US vice president called “extreme.”

“That’s why people are leaving Donald Trump’s rallies, they’re tired of so much fake news that he’s repeating over and over again,” Harris said, with Trump replying “you’re paying your people to come to the rallies you”.

“That’s why I have the support of so many great people, including former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney.”

Trump blamed Democrats for the assassination attempt on him

Former US President Donald Trump has blamed Democrats for an assassination attempt on him, saying he “probably took a bullet in the head” because of the rhetoric leveled against him by Vice President Kamala Harris and others. Trump hit back at Harris’ claim that the former president would use the Justice Department as a weapon against his political enemies if re-elected.

“I probably took a bullet to the head because of the things they say about me. They talk about democracy – ‘I am a threat to democracy’. They are the threat to democracy,” he said.

Middle East and Ukraine on the agenda of the confrontation – “Trump wants to become a dictator”

As for the Israel-Hamas war, Kamala Harris began by saying she supports Israel’s right to defend itself, but noted that “too many innocent Palestinians” have been killed.

He said there must be a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages held by Hamas.

“We will continue to work day and night to work on this,” he adds.

Harris “hates Israel,” responded Trump, who was asked how he would negotiate with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and responded by saying the war “would never have started” if he were president.

He also says the war in Ukraine wouldn’t have started either, noting that he knows Russian President Vladimir Putin “very well.”

“Harris is a lousy negotiator. She was sent to broker a meeting between Putin and Zelensky to avoid war and 3 days later Russia invaded Ukraine.” The American vice president’s reaction was immediate, and she categorically denied ever meeting the Russian president.

Also, Vice President Harris used her counterpoint to point out that she has supported Israel for “her entire career” and that her Republican opponent “admires dictators.”

He says he “wants to be a dictator one day”, adding that:

“It is known that he exchanged love letters with Kim Jong Un and it is absolutely known that these dictators and emperors want you to become president again because it is so clear that they can manipulate you with flattery and favors. But in reality, Putin, who you’re friends with, would eat you for lunch.”

“I’ve been around the world as the vice president of the United States and the leaders of the whole world are laughing at Donald Trump,” Harris assured, insisting that it is “notorious” that “dictators and authoritarian leaders want him to be president again because they know very well that they can manipulate you by flattering you and doing you favors.”

“I will be the president of all Americans” the message Harris – “You were the worst Vice President”

In the final phase of closing messages before the telethon ended, Kamala Harris vowed to be a president who would “protect fundamental freedoms,” saying that includes a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body.

Referring to her time as a prosecutor, she noted that she “only had one client – the people,” and that she never asked victims or witnesses if they were Republicans or Democrats, and always only asked if they were OK.

“That’s the kind of president we need right now,” he added, concluding:

“I plan to be a president for all Americans and focus on what we can do in the next 10 and 20 years to rebuild our country by investing in you now.”

For his part, Donald ended his presence at the debate by launching an all-out attack on his opponent.

“He started out saying he’s going to do this, he’s going to do that, he’s going to do all these wonderful things – why hasn’t he done them?” noted.

“He’s been there for 3.5 years. They had 3.5 years to build the border. They had 3.5 years to create jobs and all the things we talked about. Why hasn’t he done them?

“He should go right now, go down to the White House, go to the Capitol, get them all together and do the things that you want to do, but you haven’t done — and you won’t do,” he said.

Trump closed his remarks by saying that Joe Biden is “the worst president” and that Ms. Harris is “the worst vice president in the history of our country.”
