A Turkish court has charged the mother and a brother of Narin Guran, the 8-year-old girl who has been missing for days, with complicity in murder, and ordered their pretrial detention.

Narin’s body was found after three weeks hidden under rocks in Diyarbakır province. This case has caused a shock in Turkey and many demonstrations have taken place.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he will seek the harshest punishment for those responsible for the murder of Narin Guran.

Prosecutors in Diyarbakir charged the girl’s mother and a brother with complicity in his murder. Six people, including an uncle and cousins of Narine, have already been charged with destroying evidence of the crime, while another of the girl’s uncles is also charged with murder.

Political parties and women’s organizations have held protests in various cities across Turkey demanding justice for Narin.

The girl’s murder has sparked strong reactions on social media, mainly because a large number of her relatives were implicated in the crime.

Narin disappeared on August 21 from her village, located about 10 kilometers south of Diyarbakir. Her body was found on September 8 in a sack, next to a stream, covered with stones.

It is not clear how she was killed, but media reported that an autopsy found bruises on her neck.
