Floods and landslides have killed around 350 people in Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Thailand – countries hit by Typhoon Yagi.
At least 74 are the dead from the floods caused by the hurricane Yagi at Myanmaraccording to a more recent account of the authorities who express fears that the number of victims will increase since the fate of 89 residents is unknown.
The previous toll was 33 dead and more than 235,000 displaced.

Search and rescue operations are continuing in Myanmar, according to the newspaper Global New Light of Myanmarr, which reports that more than 65,000 houses, roads and bridges were destroyed. Large tracts of farmland have been flooded in the central part of the country, around the capital Naypyidaw, while landslides were reported in several mountainous areas.
The head of Myanmar’s junta, Gen Min Aung Laingappealed yesterday Saturday for help from abroad, even though he had previously refused it in a similar situation. In June 2023, it had suspended the permits of aid workers trying to help the nearly one million affected by Cyclone Moka. The United Nations then denounced the “incomprehensible” decision.
