Donald Trump’s campaign team said Tuesday that it had been informed by US intelligence agencies of “specific” threats to kill the Republican candidate coming from Iran.

“(Former) President Trump was earlier informed by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of true and specific threats by Iran to assassinate him,” Republican spokesman Stephen Chang said in a press release.

According to the campaign spokesman, who cited US intelligence, these “sustained and coordinated attacks” have intensified “over the past several months.”

Tehran has already repeatedly denied US accusations of this nature, most recently in the summer, calling them “vicious”.

In mid-August, US authorities blamed Iran for cyberattacks on the systems of the campaign teams of Mr Trump and his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.

In July, Mr Trump said he expected the US to “wipe” Iran off “the face of the Earth” if it was assassinated by Tehran, a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the “threat”.
