Local media reported that the Colombian Air Force helicopter crashed while carrying out a humanitarian mission in the Vihata department
Eight members of Colombia’s air force, carrying out a humanitarian mission in a region bordering Venezuela, were killed when the helicopter they were in crashed, President Gustavo Petro announced.
“It is with great regret that we announce the death of eight members of the Colombian Air Force,” the Colombian president said in his post on Platform X, while expressing his condolences to the families of the victims.
The military said the helicopter was located in a rural area, near the community of Kumaribo. “There are no survivors,” he said.
The causes of the accident are being investigated.
Footage broadcast by local media shows the helicopter, burnt and disintegrated, in a field.
