A man killed three people and injured fifteen others last Monday night, attacking people with a knife inside a supermarket in Shanghaithe police of the Chinese metropolis announced today.

The perpetrator, 37 years old, was arrested in the store a short time after he committed the murder, according to a statement from the police of the Chinese metropolis, which clarified that the man attacked due to his anger due to a “personal financial dispute”.

Eighteen injured were taken to a hospital. The three succumbed. The lives of the remaining fifteen are not threatened.

Attacks using firearms are extremely rare in China, as gun ownership is strictly prohibited in the Asian giant. But in recent years, there has been a surge in knife attacks.

In September, a Japanese student succumbed to his injuries in a knife attack in Shenzhen. The tragedy caused outrage in Tokyo.

In May, a man stabbed nine people – eight of whom succumbed – in the city of Xiaogan in the central province of Hubei.
