However, security was tight at Saturday’s rally following two attempts on Trump’s life, the second last month at the golf course in West Palm Beach of Florida.

Trump during his speech blamed the “corrupt system”, and promised to restore “respect” to the US foreign policy and close the “open borders”, which – he claimed – are a source of crime.

“You deserve a government that protects and respects its citizens, defends your sovereignty, your security, your dignity and your freedom,” he told the thousands of Americans who gathered on the fairgrounds in Butler to thunderous applause.

THE Donald Trump he also attacked his political opponents, accusing them of “slandering” him and trying to interfere in the election and “who knows – maybe they tried to kill me”.

“But I never stopped fighting for you,” he added. “I never will.”

Trump made several references to the assassination attempt on him, while a moment of silence was observed for Corey Competore, the volunteer firefighter who was killed in the July shooting.

“He’s become a folk hero,” Trump added. “Our handsome Corey.”

The former president praised Elon Musk and invited him on stage. This is “the most important election of our lifetime,” the tech mogul told the crowd and urged them to register and vote for Trump.

Between 25,000 and 30,000 people were expected at the rally, which caused traffic snarls in the rural town north of Pittsburgh throughout Saturday. Many waited up to 10 hours under the scorching sun to pass the line of hawkers selling Trump-Vance campaign flags, hats, signs and orange wigs.
