Hassan Nasrallah did not agree to any ceasefire, says Israeli ambassador to Britain
Israel’s ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotoveli, has denied Lebanon’s claim that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had accepted a ceasefire deal before his assassination.
“Hassan Nasrallah has not agreed to any ceasefire, it’s just ridiculous,” Gippi said, speaking to Britain’s Sky News on Sunday, adding that the claim “has no basis in reality.”
“Let’s not talk about the good intentions of a terrorist organization. They don’t have good intentions,” he said.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib told CNN that Nasrallah had agreed to a US-backed 21-day truce just days before he was assassinated by Israel, a claim echoed by Rami Mortada, Lebanon’s ambassador to the UK.
“We have expressed our agreement to this plan put forward by the US, the UK and 15 other nations. Unfortunately … when (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu arrived in New York, he rejected this whole peace plan and he still does,” Mortada told CNN, referring to Netanyahu’s combative speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York last month.
Mortada said the ceasefire plan is “a text that is still binding” on Lebanon. He added that it was “a statement of fact known to all” that prospects for a ceasefire had been derailed by Nasrallah’s killing. “We are dealing with an Israeli government that is inciting war,” Mortada said.
