The Russian siege around Kyiv is tightening – The Zelensky message

All eyes are on Kyiv as there are concerns that a massive Russian invasion of the Ukrainian capital is imminent. A new ceasefire for the formation of humanitarian corridors in parts of Ukraine will take effect at 9 in the morning, as announced by Russia.

During the night, alarm sirens sounded constantly, while explosions were heard in the suburbs. According to reports, another Russian military phalanx is already moving from the northeast, towards the Ukrainian capital.

The American Institute for War Studies reports that Russia may launch a final attack on Kyiv in the next four 24 hours.

The US embargo on Russian oil and the Zelensky message

Yesterday, US President Joe Biden announced an embargo on Russian oil, the phasing out of Russian oil imports by the end of the year was announced by the United Kingdom. In addition, the EU has announced a plan for the gradual decoupling of the EU from Russian gas. According to the announcement, the goal is to reduce dependence by two thirds this year and complete independence from Russian fuel supplies “long before 2030”.

The Ukrainian president called on the British parliament to impose tougher sanctions on Moscow and promised to “fight to the end.”
American “no” to Polish MiG-29

The Pentagon, however, rejected Poland’s proposal to transport its MiG-29 fighter jets to the United States for delivery to Ukraine, saying the proposal was unsustainable. Meanwhile, the US is sending two Patriots to Poland as defense equipment in order to be prepared to face a possible threat to US and NATO allies.

Two million refugees from Ukraine have fled to other countries since the beginning of the Russian invasion, according to UN estimates.

What’s happening in Chernobyl

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said earlier that it was no longer receiving data from Chernobyl nuclear remote control systems.

In a statement, it said more than 200 technicians and guards remained stranded at the facility and worked for 13 consecutive days, under the watchful eye of the Russian military.

The agency called on Moscow to allow shifts, breaks and regular schedules to be made, stressing that this is crucial to the safety of the facility.

Degradation of the Russian economy and new departures of large companies

The rating agency Fitch downgraded Russia’s debt rating from “B” to “C”, stressing that the risk of Moscow announcing a moratorium on its public debt is “immediate”.

In the last 24 hours, the companies: Unilever, L’Oreal, Coca Cola, Pepsi, McDonald’s and Starbucks have announced that they are suspending their activities in the country.
