The evacuation of civilians from Sumi continues – In force since 9 ceasefire

by

The humanitarian corridor organized to remove civilians from besieged Sumy will continue to operate today, announced the governor Dmitro Zivicki.

About 5,000 people were evacuated by bus from the city of 250,000 (northeastern Ukraine) following the Moscow-Kiev agreement on the corridor, the official added.

About 1,000 private cars were also able to leave for the city of Poltava in central Ukraine.

According to the BBC, humanitarian corridors will be reopened from 10 in the morning for Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Mariupol, while Russia has announced a ceasefire from 9 in the morning.

The ceasefire will take effect from 9.00 (Greek time) on the morning of Wednesday 9 March.

“Russia is ready to open humanitarian corridors,” the Russian government was quoted as saying by AFP, citing Russia’s Tass news agency.

According to Moscow, this proposal will be transferred to the Ukrainian authorities, which, as yesterday, must confirm by midnight (02.00 Greek time) the opening of humanitarian corridors and from what time they will be able to operate.

According to information, the corridors will be from Kyiv, Kharkov and other cities.

The first evacuation corridors for civilians opened this morning, especially in Sumi, in the northeast, from where two motorcades departed during the day. Evacuations are also continuing in the Kiev region.

In other cities, such as Boutsa, north of Mariupol, civilians remain stranded.
