Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had a meeting with leading members of Hamas earlier today

Xakan Fidan, as reported by SKAI’s correspondent in Istanbul, Manolis Kostidis, met in the city with the President of the Council of Hamas, Mohammad Darvis Ismail and the members of the Politburo of Hamas.

During the meeting, the humanitarian situation in the region, particularly in the northern part of Gaza, was discussed. Our Minister stated that “we will use all the possibilities of diplomacy to mobilize the international community against the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza”.

The meeting also discussed the latest status in negotiations to reach a ceasefire agreement that would allow for the exchange of hostages/prisoners.

On the occasion of the meeting, our Minister also conveyed his condolences to the Hamas officials for the martyrdom of Yahya Sinwar.

All this while the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asked today from the United Nations to impose arms embargo on Israel, as an “effective solution” to end the war in the Gaza Strip, he said,

Erdogan made these statements in a statement issued after a few-hour meeting in Istanbul with the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to the Turkish announcement, “Israel seeks provocations to expand the conflicts in the region (…). A United Nations arms embargo on Israel would be an effective solution to ending Israeli aggression.”

It is recalled that in the same tone, the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Tuesday he specifically stated: The time for diplomacy is “over”. calling for moves to impose “sanctions” on Israel.

“There is nothing left for us to say diplomatically, politically… we are done with that. We need other tools,” Fidan told a conference on the “future of Palestine” held in Ankara.
