Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during the two men’s meeting in Israel that Iran and Hezbollah’s assassination attempt against him “cannot be ignored.”
“This is a matter of dramatic importance that cannot be ignored,” Netanyahu stressed during their two-and-a-half-hour meeting.
After the end of the meeting there were no joint statements or press conferences.
Netanyahu and Blinken, among others, discussed today the “need” for the two countries to “join forces” against the “Iranian threat”, according to the statement issued by the prime minister’s office.
During the meeting they had in Jerusalem, “the issue of the Iranian threat and the need for the two countries to join forces to deal with it was raised,” this text states. Netanyahu “thanked the US for its support in the fight against the axis of evil and Iranian terrorism,” he added.
This meeting also discussed “the kind of government in Gaza” after the war.
Netanyahu told his interlocutor that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Shinwar, who was killed on October 16 by Israeli soldiers in Rafah, “could have positive consequences for the return of the hostages,” the statement concluded.
