The Pentagon has denied that Ariane Tabatabai, chief of staff to the assistant secretary of defense for special operations, is the target of an investigation into the leak of classified documents related to Israel’s plans to retaliate against Iran.

“As far as I know, this official is not under investigation,” Air Force Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sky News Arabia named Tabatabai as the prime suspect in the FBI’s investigation into the leaks, citing a senior Pentagon official as its source.

According to Sky News, Tabatabai came under fire in 2023 after members of Congress wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urging him to remove the official from her post over security concerns about her alleged communication with the Revolutionary Guards, IRGC.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with his Israeli counterpart Defense Minister Yoav Gallad about the leaks, Ryder said.
