A racist speech about Puerto Rico at Donald Trump’s rally caused artists like Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin to revolt and declare support for candidate Kamala Harris.
Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe was one of the first to speak at Trump’s concert this Sunday (27) at Madison Square Garden, in New York. He was supposed to be just one of the acts to warm up the audience before the main attraction, but his speech full of racist or tasteless jokes quickly took over the headlines.
Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico, a US territory, a floating trash island, said he awaits immigrants with open arms while gesturing “go away”, and that Latinos “like making babies”, adding a vulgar joke afterwards.
On her Instagram profile, singer J.Lo, daughter of Puerto Ricans, responded by publishing to her 250 million followers a page of Kamala’s government plan to help Puerto Rico.
Ricky Martin, born in Puerto Rico, also posted a response to the joke on his profile. He reposted the video of the insult and said, “As Latinos cast their votes at the voting booth, they must never forget the racism that Donald Trump seems all too willing to propagate.”
In addition to them, Bad Bunny, one of the biggest artists today, endorsed Kamala Harris. Luis Fonsi, from “Despacito”, called the speech a lack of respect, as did Trump-allied congresswoman Maria Salazar.
