41-year-old Tommy Robinson, possibly the most well-known figure of the British far-right, was sentenced to 18 months in prison by a London court in Britain.
Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is jailed after pleading guilty to a charge of contempt of court.
In 2021 the justice had forbidden him to repeat defamatory accusations against a young refugee from Syria, an order which Robinson has not obeyed.
Syrian teenager Jamal Hijazi was filmed in October 2018 being assaulted and beaten at a school in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire by another student.
Robinson had then told his one million Facebook followers in a video that his investigations showed the young Syrian was a violent thug, a charge that was false.
The young man and his family started receiving threats and were forced to leave the area.
Despite the defamation ruling, Robinson began repeating the accusation against the young man last year, leading to today’s conviction.
