The man convicted of assaulting and attempting to kidnap the husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole in a state trial.

David DePape was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his federal case.

DePape was found guilty in a state trial in June of a number of charges, including attempted kidnapping, first-degree burglary and imprisonment of an adult.

Before sentencing Tuesday, DePape’s attorneys asked for a new trial, but the motion was denied.

“It is my intention that DePape never gets out of prison, he can never be paroled,” Judge Harry Dorfman said during the sentencing, according to the AP.

DePape addressed the court before he was sentenced, claiming he is a psychic, that 9/11 was an inside job and that his lawyers were conspiring against him, the AP reports.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said DePap’s federal and state convictions reflect “the unanimous condemnation of the public.”

“We cannot allow political violence to become normalized and we must take swift action to ensure that there are serious consequences for those who use violence to intimidate or silence our elected leaders for doing what they were elected to do.” , Jenkins added.

Paul Pelosi was attacked at his home in San Francisco in October 2022, days before the midterm elections, and underwent surgery for a fractured skull and severe injuries to his right hand.

The attack sent shockwaves through Washington, underscoring the rising tide of threats facing lawmakers.

A federal jury found DePape guilty of attempting to kidnap a US official and assaulting a family member of a federal official. He was sentenced in May to 30 years in prison.
