Ukraine’s accession to the EU is not something that will happen “tomorrow”, said French Minister of European Affairs Clement Bon.
“It will take time,” Bonn said, referring to talks on whether Ukraine should join the EU as a matter of urgency as a sign of solidarity after the Russian invasion.
From his side the representative of the French government Gabriel Atal denounced Russia’s “inhuman and cowardly” attacks on Ukraine following the bombing of a children’s hospital in Mariupol on Wednesday.
“I can say this on behalf of the French government: Russia’s blows against the children’s hospital in Mariupol are inhuman and cowardly. “The target was women, children, medical staff, it is uncharacteristic and we ask again to declare a ceasefire,” Atal told RTL.
Three people, including a little girl, were killed in the hospital bombing and at least 17 staff members were injured, according to a recent report from local authorities.
Atal also stressed that “we still want to go further in terms of sanctions (against Russia) and we want to prepare for all scenarios to be more independent. “There will be discussions between the Heads of State and Government” during the informal summit today and tomorrow in Versailles.
“What we will work on mainly during this summit is how we can stop depending on Russia to warm up, to move,” the French government spokesman added.
