The Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati expressed cautious optimism today about the possibility of a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

We are doing everything in our power to achieve a ceasefire in the next hours or days,” Mikati said in an interview with Al Jadeed TV, adding that it is “moderately optimistic.”

Meanwhile, a draft of the US-promoted ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah was leaked on Israeli state television. Among other things, it provides for a 60-day period during which Lebanese armed forces will deploy along the border and seize Hezbollah weapons in southern Lebanon. Israeli troops will withdraw from Lebanon within 7 days of the cessation of hostilities so that the Lebanese Armed Forces and UN peacekeepers can be deployed along the border, the draft says.

After the 60 day periodIsrael and Lebanon will conduct US-brokered indirect negotiations on the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions 1701 and 1559.

Israel would retain an oversight mechanism and the right to respond to threats from Lebanese soil, according to the draft.
