Iranian-German death row “terrorist” Jamshid Sharmahd has died before his death sentence was carried out, Iran’s judiciary announced today, according to state media.

State media announced the execution of 69-year-old Sharmahd on October 28, after he was sentenced to death by an Iranian court in 2023 for “terrorist attacks”.

Today, however, the spokesman for the judiciary Asghar Jahangir, without giving additional information, announced that “Jamshid Sharmahd died before the execution of his death sentence.”

His daughter, Gazelle Sharmahd, had requested, by posting on the X platform, proof of her father’s execution and the immediate return of his body to his family.

The conviction and death of Jamshid Sharmahd worsened the rift in Tehran’s relations with Berlin, with German authorities closing Iranian consulates across Germany.

Iranian authorities said Sharmahd was the leader of a pro-monarchist group accused of a deadly bombing in 2008 and planning other attacks in the country.

German Foreign Minister Analena Burbock accused Iran of holding Western citizens hostage and trying to use Germany’s support for Israel in the widening conflict in the Middle East to justify killing Sharmakh.
