The winner of the US presidential election, Donald Trump, is expected to be sworn in on January 20, according to NBC.

In his first statements, the new occupant of the White House spoke of “an amazing victory for the American people” and pledged to help “the country heal.”

At the same time, Trump thanked the American people for the honor of electing him, saying that “we made history for a reason tonight.”

Certification of election results

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, there are various dates by which governments must certify the vote count in their states. For example, this process in the states of Arizona and Michigan will take place on November 25, Georgia on November 22 and Wisconsin on December 1.

Voting in the Electoral College

Under US law, the Electoral College vote must be held on the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday in December, which this year falls on December 17. There each state’s electors cast their ballots and the results are prepared to be sent to designated federal and state officials.

The new members of Congress convene on January 3, and on that date the Archivist delivers to the legislators all the Electoral College vote certificates.
