Upcoming auction of 50 original comic pages Lucky Luke is not just a rare event for collectors and enthusiasts, but is also a celebration of the enduring legacy and genius of the iconic character’s creator, the Belgian cartoonist Morris.

The auction organized by Christie’s in Paris on November 15 highlights the contribution of Morris (stage name of Maurice de Bevere) – to the world of comics and the influence of Lucky Luke, the lonely cowboy “who shoots faster than his shadow”.

The comic pages were presented ahead of the Christie’s auction in Brussels, Geneva and Paris and offered collectors the chance to rediscover the career of a comics pioneer, one of the giants of the ninth art, a term coined by Morris himself .

Morris, who was born in the Belgian town of Kortrijk in 1923, drew inspiration from both Walt Disney cartoons and European sources, drawing his comics in a cinematic style.

Lucky Luke first appeared in 1946 in Spirou magazine and the first full-length album was published in 1947 – followed by 71 more produced by Morris until his death in 2001. The comic became a cultural phenomenon, translated into many languages, and adaptations followed animation, video games and live-action films.

Each page is estimated to sell for 20,000 to 70,000 euros. The auction is expected to generate profits of 2.7-3.4 million euros, according to the house.
