London, Thanasis Gavos
UK Secretary of State Liz Tras has announced sanctions against 386 members of the Russian Duma who last month backed Moscow’s recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk independence and a Russian military presence there.
The sanctions include a ban on entry to the United Kingdom, a ban on access to their assets in the country and a ban on transactions with British individuals and companies.
Ms Trass said the UK was targeting “those who are complicit in the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine and those who support this barbaric war”.
He added: “We will not ease the pressure and we will continue to tighten the screw on the Russian economy through sanctions.”
The new sanctions follow yesterday’s announcement against seven Russian oligarchs, including Roman Abramovich and Oleg Deripaska.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the British government has imposed sanctions on more than 500 businesses and individuals linked to the Kremlin. Among them are 18 wealthy oligarchs with a combined wealth of over 30 billion pounds.
