There were no Hezbollah operatives in the area, according to a lawmaker who oversees the armed group
More than 50 people were killed today by Israeli strikes in Lebanon, mainly in Beirut, the country’s health ministry announced, while its defense minister IsraelIsrael Katz, said his country would continue to act “resolutely” against Hezbollah.
At least 15 people died in the Israeli attack in Beirut’s Basta neighborhood and 63 were injured, while another 38 were killed in attacks in the northeast and south of the Lebanese capital, the country’s health ministry said. Of these, 16, including four children, were killed in the Baalbek region, which is considered a stronghold of Hezbollah. Another 14 were killed in the south, five of them in Tyre.
In Beirut, an eight-story building was hit by four missiles designed to destroy underground targets, a Lebanese security source said. Israel has used such armor-piercing bombs to kill senior Hezbollah figures, including the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, last September.
Amin Siri, a member of parliament representing Hezbollah, said there were no senior members of the group in the building that was hit.
The Israeli military has not yet commented.
