US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he has chosen Brooke Rollins, head of the America First Policy Institute, as Secretary of Agriculture.

As US Secretary of Agriculture, “Brooke will lead the effort to protect America’s farmers, who are truly the backbone of our country,” Trump said in the announcement.

If her nomination is approved by the Senate, Rollins will head the US Department of Agriculture, which has 100,000 employees and a budget of $437.2 million in 2024.

“Brooke’s dedication to protecting the American farmer, defending America’s food self-sufficiency, and restoring American communities that depend on agriculture is unparalleled,” Trump said.

The America First Policy Institute is a conservative-leaning think tank that worked with Trump’s campaign staff to shape the policies the Republican tycoon would pursue should he — as he did — return to the White House.

Brooke Rollins chaired the Domestic Policy Council during Donald Trump’s first term as president.
