He died of old age 112 years old the world’s oldest man, announced the agency behind the Guinness World Record.
THE John Tinniswood he had been born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, the year the Titanic sank.
He ended up at the retirement home where he lived in Southport on Monday, surrounded by relatives, “music and love”.
John Tinniswood became the world’s oldest man last April when the previous record holder, Juan Vicente Perez of Venezuela, died at the age of 114.
His advice at the time to stay healthy in old age was to “moderate” everything and avoid excesses.
On his 112th birthday in August, however, he attributed his longevity to “mere luck”.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in an administrative capacity and then worked as an accountant for Shell and BP. He retired in 1972.
He was married to his wife Blodwen for 44 years, until she died in 1986.
He is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
His family described him as an “intelligent, determined, brave and calm man, with a talent for mathematics and a great conversationalist”.
The record holder for the oldest man who has ever lived is Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who died in 2013 at the age of 116 years and 54 days.
The oldest person alive in the world right now is Tomiko Itoka, also from Japan, who is 116 years old.
