A Russian strike in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy killed two civilians, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, adding that one more was under the rubble.

Zelensky said in a video posted on the Telegram app that the rescue operation was continuing at the affected site.

City officials said earlier that Sumi, located about 30 kilometers from the Russian border, was hit by a Russian airstrike at about 12:10 p.m. Greece time. They also reported that a car park, several houses and a school building were damaged in the attack.

Zelensky, citing preliminary findings, later stated that Sumi was hit by a missile launch system.

“It is realistic to protect ourselves from this (US attacks) only by destroying Russian weapons, Russian missile launch systems on Russian territory. That is why the ability to strike on Russian soil is so important to us,” Zelensky said.
