A rocket attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in the city of Arbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq.
No one was injured in the attack, according to local government health minister Shaman Barzani.
“Twelve ballistic missiles” were fired from a location outside Iraqi territory targeting Arbil, according to Reuters, citing the Kurdistan Regional Government Counter-Terrorism Service.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a U.S. consulate and an airport. The Kurdistan24 television network published images of disasters at its facilities in posts on social media.
The city’s airport and the US consulate did not report any damage from the attack.
“We condemn this terrorist attack on many parts of Arbil, and we urge the people to remain calm,” said Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
The last attack on the city of Arbil took place last September, when drones hit the airport, without any casualties.
