French President Emmanuel Macron today denounced an “unacceptable logic of escalation” by Russia in Ukraine and insisted that France will continue to help Kiev as “intensively and for as long as it needs” regardless of Russian threats, the Elysee reported.

During a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, Macron “condemned in the strongest possible terms Russia’s indiscriminate strikes that continue to escalate against Ukraine’s cities, civilians and energy infrastructure“, says the French presidency.

These strikes, the increased cooperation with North Korea and the accompanying irresponsible rhetoric, are part of an unacceptable logical escalation on the part of Russia, which continues to pursue a revisionist, brutal and imperialist agenda in violation of Ukraine’s sovereign rights and the United Nations CharterMacron added.

The French president also underlined that this logic of escalation “could not reverse our determination to continue to assist Ukraine as intensively and for as long as necessary so that it can exercise its right to self-defense and Russia’s war of aggression is defeated».

After a first strike in Ukraine on November 22 with powerful supersonic ballistic missile “Oresnik”Russian President Vladimir Putin is threatening to repeat such strikes, mainly against Kiev, and even to bomb military installations of Western countries that arm Kiev, in response to Kiev’s bombing of Russia with the use of American ATACMS missiles and British Storm Shadow.

It has not currently carried out its threats, but is stepping up attacks with missiles and drones on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and with cluster munitions, according to Kiev.

France reiterated for its part that the launch of French missiles by Ukrainian forces on Russian territory remains “an option”.

Emmanuel Macron had talked about this option on May 25 in Germany to “make it possible to neutralize the (Russian) military installations from which the missiles are launched” against Ukraine.
