“The president must immediately and thoroughly explain this tragic situation,” said People’s Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon.
The leader of South Korea’s ruling party has called on the country’s president to explain his “tragic” decision to declare martial law and called for the defense minister to be fired, according to CNN.
“As a ruling party, we are deeply sorry for the public”People’s Power Party leader Han Dong-hun said in a statement to reporters early this morning local time.
“The president must immediately and thoroughly explain this tragic situation”he added. “The defense minister who recommended this martial law must be removed immediately and all those responsible must be held to account.”
The People’s Power Party had immediately opposed the president’s move to declare martial law, calling it unconstitutional.
After all, its president South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol declared that he was withdrawing his proclamation martial law which he had imposed a few hours before, obeying the parliament’s vote against the measure. Yun said military forces were withdrawn while his cabinet approved the lifting of martial law.
