The Russian hypersonic missile test took place in the eastern Mediterranean, an area where the US Navy has three amphibious ships with 2,200 marines, as well as destroyers that provide missile defense for Israel.

The call between the two top military leaders was not made public until Wednesday, a day after the Russian Defense Ministry said Russian warships in the region had fired hypersonic missiles at an undisclosed location in international waters. However, details of the Russian general’s warning to Brown have not been officially disclosed.

In their conversation, they also discussed how to avoid a miscalculation that would bring escalation between the two countries over Ukraine, a US official said.
